anwama combines attention to detail and passionate craftsmanship. The Berlin based fashion brand was founded by fashion designer and dress maker Anna-Maria Wittmann with the aim to create minimalistic and timeless garments out of hemp fabric.
They were fascinated by the advantages of hemp fabrics in cultivation, its excellent wearing properties and special feel. After extensive research they found a weaving mill in Romania. The minimalist design of their garments underlines the individuality and beauty of each customer. anwama doesn't believe in trends - a garment by anwama is a long-lasting companion and made to order in their studio.
They are only at the beginning of their journey, their sustainable vision is a development process. Sustainable action means constantly questioning decisions, exploring alternative solutions and trying out unconventional methods. The goal of anwama is to make their garments compostable so they can be returned to their natural cycle.
Transparency and trust are the base of anwama's concept.
Hemp plant needs no artificial irrigation and no use of pesticides in cultivation. Hemp has a greater durability compared to other natural fibres. The fibre is non-toxic and skin-friendly. Hemp is characterised by a good moisture regulation for the human body, dries quickly and is dirt-repellent; therefore a hemp garment can be washed less often. It is more tear and tensile resistant than cotton, for example, and therefore more durable. The fibre keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, is antistatic and has good UV protection as well as an antibacterial effect.
The handle of hemp can be compared with linen, after each wash your garment will become softer.
