Perky Shoes
Perky Shoes is a fun and relatable shoe brand offering designs that are gender- and ageless, suitable for people from all walks of life. In 2018, Perky Shoes won an award from the Brazilian footwear industry association for its sustainable practices and work that benefited indigenous people of the Kayapo community in Brazil. Another of their charity-themed ranges is breast-cancer themed, donating 10% of proceeds to a charity that works with the illness.
About the FoundersBrazilian-Argentine couple Gabriela Giovannini and Rodrigo Casas bonded over the desire to create something together. Rodrigo is a former journalist, and Gabriela is a former student of social sciences - inspired by Argentine shoemakers, they embarked on the adventure of launching a shoe brand, Perky Shoes.
“Lightness is a word often used in the Brazilian vocabulary to represent something pleasant, and it is the central element in our DNA. It is present from the creation of our products to the service of our customers and suppliers. The lightness gives comfort to our shoes and generates well-being in our human relationships. We believe that it needs to be lived intensely with joy and lightness, because each day is unique.”
Materials
All Perky Shoes are vegan, many of them crafted from waste materials. The soles are made with the natural resin of the rubber tree, blended with soles discarded by the footwear industry.
People
Transparency across the supply chain is key to the company. Their factory's workforce is permanently employed in accordance with Brazilian labour legislation. Everyone is paid a living wage and provided with a safe and hygienic environment to work in.
Production
The brand produces its ranges locally in Brazil in order to stay close and ensure its ethical standards are being met and sustainability practices are being followed.
Packaging
All shoes are shipped in recycled Kraft paper boxes and biodegradable shipping bags
The brand is entirely animal-free, while working and producing in one of the biggest meat-producing countries in the world, which is shifting paradigms and breaking norms.
