The Oliver Co. Bramley Passport holder made with apples and wood. Minimalist and slim in design, this sustainable passport holder has been designed to conveniently hold a boarding pass, passport and two travel cards.

Dimensions: L - 140mm W - 100mm D - 10mm

The Ayous Black
The outer section of the passport holder is made from wood leather. This innovative material is made from thin sheets of real wood bonded to a fabric using an environmentally friendly adhesive. To make the material pliable, small micro laser etchings are applied, leaving a soft leather-like touch.

The wood leather reduces the kg CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by about 60% compared to a square meter of leather.

The inner section is made from apple leather. It is created using 50% apple waste and 50% polyurethane to create a soft but durable material.

The apple by-product comes from Bolzano in Italy, one of the world’s largest apple-producing regions. Due to the shear scale, it is faced with a significant amount of waste. The leather up-cycles the unused apple and creates this new material that has considerably less CO2 impact compared to others vegan leathers on the market.

Both materials are made in Italy and are vegan.

The lining is made from GOTs certified organic cotton satin. The aim of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

Other:

  • Polyester stitching
  • Hand-painted edges

Apple Leather: Often a waste product from the fruit industry, apple leather is made from peels, cores, pulp, and other leftovers from juicing or apple purees. The high-end leather-like textile is created by dehydrating apple waste and coating it onto a canvas. Often, the resulting material will still include polyurethane, but in smaller quantities compared to traditionally made PU (polyurethane) vegan leathers. _

Prominent supplier Frumat offers an apple leather containing 50% apple waste and 50% polyurethane. This results in a material which requires fewer fossil fuels than both animal leather and petroleum-derived faux leathers. At the end of its lifespan, this material can also sometimes be composted. _

Sustainably minded brands love apple leather because of its durability and breathability, but also because of how versatile it is – the material can have a grainy texture similar to cow skin, but also be smooth and soft like calf leather.  It can be embossed and laser-printed.
