Amsterdam-based handbag label O My Bag aims to make a difference by connecting artisans across the world to global markets to create fair and just working opportunities. This leather-focused accessory company has diversified into vegan options by working with apple leather.

Founder

After obtaining a Masters Degree in International Affairs, Paulien Wesselink interned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands. She wanted to make a positive difference by creating fair jobs in developing countries, so she created a brand that would allow her to foster a positive working environment.

 “The bag you carry tells a story, let it be a good one. Our story is about making a positive difference in the world, by connecting producers in small communities to the global market and creating fair job opportunities.”

Materials

O My Bag's vegan offering is made from apple leather, which is made with 66% bio-based content. The company is also working on introducing designs in plastic-free vegan leather Mirum. The bags are lined with recycled cotton. Materials are sourced from Italy and India.

Production

Manufacturing takes place in India and O My Bag visit the facility regularly. The company is dedicated to measuring their impact and environmental footprint in their annual Sustainability Report.  

People

All workers in the supply chain are paid a living wage. Gender equality training is provided and regular worker surveys are conducted.

Animals

By working with vegan materials, O My Bag is offering animal-friendly options.

Packaging

The bags are shipped in a GOTS-certified cotton dust bag and a recycled cardboard box.
