How to Veganise the Autumn 2022 Fashion Trends

As seen on the recent Fashion Week runways, the world of fashion is casting an eye towards new-season trends. Autumn is always a big moment for fashion, as it is the moment of rebirths and new beginnings, bringing with it a breath of fresh air and a desire for what's new. And this year, there is plenty to choose from if you want to indulge in the new fashion trends – even if you are eschewing animal-derived materials. Read on for the trends that will be on everyone's lips, and how you can recreate them in a vegan-friendly way.

The biker jacket. This wardrobe classic never really left, but with biker jackets showing up on the runways of Dior, Marni and Alexander McQueen this season, they are well and truly back. Wear your vegan biker jacket over another on-trend piece – the maxi skirt – or throw it on over a pair of jeans for the ultimate in nonchalant, bad-girl chic. Dauntless and Will's have killer designs that no one was killed for. Into the shearling look? Check out Issy London. And if you love this look, check out our Rock Chick edit.

Rainbow dressing. All black? Not this season. From fuchsia at Valentino to bright lavender at Bottega Veneta and zesty orange at Alexander McQueen, dopamine dressing is here and we are here for it. Choose blue or green vegan knitwear from Komodo, vegan bags in all the primary colours from Alkeme Atelier, or why not add a touch of bright magenta – whether with Komodo's camisole or Neu Nomads' maxi dress (another on-trend style). Minimalism. The 90s have been back on the fashion agenda for a while, and the stark minimalist looks connected to that decade are ruling the runways through monochrome palettes at Chloè, slip dresses at Jil Sander, and white tank tops at Prada. Give your inner minimalist the blank slate they dream of with a simple white tank from BOODY or an upcycled white tee from Baukjen, paired with unassuming sustainable denim from VILDNIS or Baukjen. Alternatively, slip into a slip dress from Neu Nomads – and top off the look with a colour-pop accessory such as Hemincuff's vibrant vegan bags. The maxi dress. You might think of sweeping maxi dresses and skirts as a summer trend – but in the autumn-winter collections, long-skirt outfits reigned supreme. Pouring out from under coats and knits, maxis are a great way to add drama to cold-weather outfits. From gothic at Givenchy to floaty and dreamy at Louis Vuitton, maxi dresses and skirts are here to stay. Get yours from Komodo, VILDNIS, or Baukjen. For truly dramatic flair, opt for Sentient's cactus-leather maxi dress – a statement piece if we ever saw one.

The miniskirt. Wait, didn't we say that the maxi was the length of the year? That's right, but the mini sits firmly on the opposite side of the spectrum, beckoning to those daring to bare. 16Arlington showed leather minis while Molly Goddard went for shredded denim. Microminis in pastel shades livened up runways at Fendi and Blumarine. If vegan leather is your style, VILDNIS and Dauntless have got you covered. If instead you wish to opt for a more classic design, choose Komodo.

The statement knit. Autumn is, of course, the time of warming knits. And this season, knitwear won't blend into the background. Colourful statement designs took centre stage at Louis Vuitton, Molly Goddard, and more. Get a wool-free style from Komodo or Minuit Sur Terre, and pair it with a miniskirt for a preppy-inspired look – alternatively, layer it over a maxi dress for added flair.
