These are the most frequently asked questions about vegan shoes:

Vegan formal shoes are made without the use of any animal materials, such as leather or suede. Increasingly, vegan formal shoes are made using innovative and high-performing textiles derived from nature, with many of the properties of leather but none of the cruelty, and with a much lower environmental impact. These include Piñatex (which is made from pineapple leaf fibres), Vegea grape leather (made from leftover grapes from the wine industry), olive leather, Desserto cactus leather, apple leather, Oleatex olive leather, cork, and MIRUM, the world's first fully plastic-free vegan leather. Yes, vegan formal shoes last well if they are properly cared for. The more modern plant-based vegan leather we offer, such as corn, cactus or apple leather are more durable and have a longer life expectancy than traditionally made synthetic leather, and therefore last longer. Your vegan formal shoes will also last longer if they are well looked after – read more in our article How To Clean & Care For Vegan Leather and discover our full vegan leather product care range.

Yes vegan formal shoes definitely can be breathable, but it does depend on the vegan leather used. Cheaper faux leather made of PVC isn't breathable, but we don’t sell any shoes made from virgin PVC. Polyurethane (PU) is much more breathable and plant-based leathers are even better. These innovative materials can be very soft, like suede. What's more, they often have fine pores, making them more breathable and lightweight.

Start by using a clean, dry cloth to lightly wipe any dust or dirt off your vegan formal shoes. With soapy water and a cloth, gently clean the material. Do not submerge your formal vegan shoes in the water, as this can cause irreversible damage. Let your shoes dry away from direct sunlight, and once they are dry, apply a small amount of polishing cream using a dry, soft cloth. Rub the cream sparingly over the shoes in a circular motion until it is fully absorbed. Leave your shoes to dry naturally for 24 hours and they'll be good to go.
