Sustainable Festival Fashion Made Easy

It's summer, and that can only mean one thing: festival season is here, and with it, a whole new set of wardrobe rules. With the climate crisis wreaking havoc on our weather, dressing for the fields has become even more challenging: do you pack parkas or shorts? Wellies or sandals? And once and for all, is glittery make-up a no-go? All your burning questions will be answered in our festival fashion edit.

Sustainable Festival Fashion Made Easy

Firstly, practicalities: you're going to need a sturdy holdall for all your festival essentials. Check out resistant, waterproof designs in recycled materials and cork from My Vegan Bags. We can all hope our festival getaways will be rain-free, but sometimes we're just not that lucky. VEGAN Happy has camping coats and rainproof robes to help with exactly those occasions. KOMODO's rain coats in recycled PET are also worth checking out. No need to let the weather cramp your style: with these eco-conscious weatherproof designs, you're ready for anything.

Colour and pattern are a mainstay of festival fashion: this is, after all, an occasion to pull out all the stops and go wild with playful experimentation. Wallflowers need not apply: take the opportunity to inject whimsy and personality into your wardrobe when you venture out into the fields. Head to Baukjen for geometric patterns and boho-chic florals alongside easy-to-wear camouflage prints, or go back to KOMODO for soft, day-to-night fabrics and a versatile colour palette. Not ready for full-on print clash? Go for a headscarf with a print and go for double denim with the rest of the outfit. Easy.

A festival is not a night out - as an all-day (and often several day) occurrence, comfort is crucial. Choose fabrics that offer ease of movement such as soft cottons, recycled materials that don't require ironing, and sturdy denim that will strike that perfect balance between feeling comfortable and looking good in all the Instagram shots. Weather heating up? Lucky you. Go for a floaty maxi dress in an exciting hue, like those offered by VEGAN Happy or Albaray. More of a jumpsuit person? Go to Organique, 1 People or KOMODO.

Last, but definitely not least: when it comes to festival fashion, accessories matter. Wellies aside, sneakers might be your best friend here. COG and Ration.L are a great bet for durable, eye-catching designs, as is Zeta Shoes. If you're ready for bare feet on the field, get ready to fall for V.GAN's sliders and footbed sandals in a variety of hues. Bag-wise, Arsayo has comfortable and roomy backpacks that will have space for everything from water bottles to powerbanks. Leaving all that stuff in the tent and going for a hands-free crossbody option? Get yours as Jeane + Jax or Votch.

One final note: if you go for glitter makeup (and who wouldn't), make sure you choose a biodegradable, compostable option to avoid microplastic release when you wash if off after a long day (and night) of partying.
