With a name meaning “honest” in Swedish, Ärliga creates a range of high-end, timeless vegan handbags. The Canada-based brand works with apple leather to craft their sleek collection of cruelty-free accessories made to last.

Founder

Apoorva Nahal was vegetarian her whole life, but struggled to find the same versatility in fashion as she did in food. Coupled with a desire to start something long-lasting and sustainable, this curiosity prompted her to start a fashion brand.

“Our mission is to redefine fashion through pieces that are as compassionate as they are desirable. We believe that style should never come at the expense of the planet or its creatures, and we’re committed to creating with intention.”

Material

Ärliga's preferred material is Uppeal, a vegan leather made with waste from the apple industry in Bolzano, in northern Italy. Apple skins, peel and pulp are dehydrated to create a supple, smooth and resistant leather alternative.

Production

Manufacturing takes place in China, in a factory certified by BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) to highlight its commitment to socially responsible production.

People

The brand operates with an ethical labour policy, and all workers in the supply chain are paid a living wage.

Animals

Ärliga is a vegan brand.
