This Italian handbag brand is committed to combining profit and purpose by offering a high-quality, ethically minded range of accessories in innovative next-gen materials such as leather made from apples, cacti, pineapple and bio-polyoils. Miomojo's business model aims to positively impact workers, community, the environment, and customers.

In 2021, Miomojo was awarded the Vegan Fashion Award by animal rights organization PETA in the Best Handbag category for their Giorgia bag made from apple leather.

About the Founder

Claudia Pievani worked in the fashion industry for many years, noticing that leather was considered to be the “gold standard” in the trade – but her experience also taught her that many products often come at the expense of animals and the planet, something that she had no desire in taking part in. The creation of Miomojo was a way to pay it forward and create a fresh and viable alternative for those who, like her, wished to take part in the beauty of fashion without contributing to destruction.

“We believe that fashion can and must give its contribution to a different way of doing business - a different lifestyle - where respect and kindness are the basic values.”

Materials

Leathers made from plants are the main focus of Miomojo's ranges. Apple leather, which is one of its main materials, comes from apple waste originating in Italy. Cactus leather from Mexico comes from organic agriculture without any pesticides. The brand is also working with pineapple leather and mycelium leather which derives from mushrooms.

Production

In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, Miomojo set up a fully Italian supply chain where, from raw material to finished product, production is driven by a dedication to both craftsmanship and innovation. This is what has led to the brand achieving B Corp status – recognising that the company is meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

People

Miomojo regularly visits its factories to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The brand works with certified suppliers and factories in Italy and China which are regularly audited.

Packaging

90% of Miomojo packaging is made from paper or cardboard, and the material used is 100% recycled and FSC certified.

Animals
